Ampalaya Monologues Brings Back Open Mic Events
Now on its 7th season, Ampalaya Monologues, the Philippines’ premiere show for spoken word artists and monologists, returns to live in-person events. The show is known for showcasing heart-wrenching performances that tell bitter-to-better love stories and elevating Pinoy hugot culture to theatrical artistry.
However, the secret to Ampalaya Monologues’ longevity is its ability to highlight relevant issues without losing its entertainment appeal. According to the show’s creator, Mark Ghosn, this is what he wants to continue to achieve, “The range of topics that have been performed on the Ampalaya Monologues stage in the past 7 years has been extensive, I’ve watched entertaining performances about someone getting cheated by a lover to someone who feels cheated by the government.”
For their upcoming open mic events, Team Ampalaya is set to tour not just within Metro Manila but also around the country, as they bring the unique experience of the live in-person show to more people, “It’s more than just a show, it’s a community. We build a space where spoken word artists and monologists feel safe to showcase their art, while at the same time, we genuinely connect to each audience and treat them like best friends, if you ask our top fans, that kind of experience is hard to find somewhere else.” Ghosn says.
